HOW ENROLMENT WORKS AT ICS
This sheet describes how enrolment works at ICS so that you will better understand the processing of your application. Our desire is to make the process as quick and efficient as possible, because we know it is an anxious time for parents. If at any time you have questions about your enrolment application, please don’t hesitate to speak to our Registrar on 4230 3777.

Initial Application

You would have received this sheet that you are now reading inside an Enrolment Prospectus. Also contained in the Prospectus is a green enrolment application form. You should fill in this form and submit it to the school office together with an application fee of $20 for each child you are enrolling.

The office staff will then begin processing the application. They will do the following:
1. Check that children being enrolled into Kindergarten or Year 1 satisfy the minimum age requirement. Our enrolment policy states that children being enrolled into Kindergarten must turn 5 by 31st March in the year in which they start school and that children in Year 1 must turn 6 by 31st March. There is no minimum age requirement for other classes.
2. If there are no vacancies in the desired class, children are placed on a waiting list.

WAITING LIST
Our waiting list is divided into priorities which are designed to be fair to parents already involved in the school, as well as to parents enrolling their first child.

Since we are a Christian school, we assign a higher priority on the waiting list to active Christians who attend church at least monthly, who sign on the application form that they personally accept and believe the statement of faith, and who enclose a reference from the minister of the church they attend.

A higher priority is also given to families who already have children enrolled at the school, as we desire to keep families together. Finally, and most importantly, a higher priority is given to parents who are members of the School Association. Membership of the association is open to people whether they have children at the school or not. To become a member you need to be an active Christian and to demonstrate at an interview that you understand and agree with the school’s Educational Creed, which is part of the school’s Constitution. Please contact the office if you would like to apply for membership.

Within each priority group, applications are recorded in the order in which they are received.

A VACANCY BECOMES AVAILABLE
When a vacancy becomes available, the office will contact the first family on the waiting list to determine if they wish to proceed with enrolment. If they do not want to proceed or cannot be contacted, the next family is contacted, and so on. It is important to ensure that you keep the office up to date with your contact details if there are any changes during this waiting period.
Once a family agrees to proceed, they are invited to arrange a time for their child to be assessed, and for the parents to be interviewed.

ASSESSMENT
The student assessment is performed at the school by a qualified teacher using standardised tests. It is not meant to be a daunting time for your child! The aim of the assessment is to ensure that the school can properly cater for the child and to give the teachers an idea of the capabilities of the student. Only in exceptional circumstances might an assessment affect an enrolment, and if this is the case the concerns will be discussed with you.

A fee of $50 for each child is to be paid at the time of assessment.

INTERVIEW
Parents enrolling their first child at the school will be interviewed by two members of the interviewing committee. The aim of the interview is to give parents an opportunity to find out more about the school, its philosophy of education and its organisational structure. Interviews are normally held during the evening at a private residence, however other times can be arranged. Children are not required to attend the interview, and just like the assessment for your child, the interview is not meant to be daunting!

APPROVAL
Once the interview is complete, and if there are no significant concerns with the assessment, approval can be given immediately by our Enrolments Registrar.

If there are any significant concerns arising from the assessment, the application for enrolment will be given careful consideration at the next Board meeting. These meetings are usually held once per month. You will be notified of the Board decision as soon as possible after the meeting.

OFFER OF ENROLMENT
Once approval is granted, you will receive a written offer of enrolment. At this stage you simply need to return written acceptance of the offer within 2 weeks, together with an acceptance fee of $400. This fee will be deducted from the normal school fees for the next year, however if your child does not start at our school this fee is not refundable.

We hope that this gives you an understanding of the enrolment process at ICS. Thank you for your interest in the school and we look forward to a continuing relationship with you in the education of your child. Once again, if you have any questions, please contact the office.
