On Wednesday 4th November The Illawarra Coal Regional Science Fair was held at the University of Wollongong. This is a great opportunity for people to share their enthusiasm for Science. School students and judges discuss their passion for Science during 2 one hour judging sessions. 421 students were registered from 41 primary and high schools, presenting 294 projects. Students from as far away as Narromine and Broulee attended. Tongarra campus was represented by Hannah Bartley, Hannah Rochester, Mellissa Hansen, Rachel Imisides, Owen Wilkins, Tara Brown, Tabitha Bellino, Emily Debrot and Benjamin Deen. These motivated students had to present their student research projects onto decorated wooden boards and then take them to the University on Tuesday afternoon. They returned for the judging on Wednesday.
At the end of the prize giving Tongarra had received 4 Highly Commended medals. These were gained by Tara Brown, Hannah Rochester, Hannah Bartley and Mellissa Hensen.
As a Science teacher, it is exciting to see so many young people with a passion for Science. A lot of effort had one into their original research as well as into the preparation of the display boards. I look forward to our students being involved again next year.
Mrs Carr.
