Year 7 Technology students were ready for @plasticfreejuly with amazing bags and pencil cases they designed, printed and sewed by themselves!
Students explored the growing problem of plastic waste ending up in our oceans and investigated ways to respond as responsible stewards of God’s creation. They designed and created their own unique carry bags after experimenting with screen-printing and sewing to reduce their use of plastic bags. Some students were able to complement their bag with their own pencil case.
Students also considered the timeless screen-printed designs of Marimekko, a Finnish design company founded in 1951. They reflected on the use of simple graphics in bold colours to bring joy to the everyday in a country with long, dark winters.
Each bag created is unique and has been designed to last for a long time to come. Our students have also been challenged to find ways to use their new-found skills to enhance the lives of others.
