Illawarra Christian School extends its congratulations to HSC Design and Technology students Jordyn Chilby, Timothy Hawken and Samuel Estell. All three students have been nominated for possible inclusion in Shape 2019, the annual exhibition of a selection of exemplary Major Projects developed by HSC Design and Technology, Industrial Technology and Textiles and Design students.
Jordyn, Tim and Sam completed their Major Projects for Design and Technology under the oversight of TAS Head Teacher Mr Mark Whitelock. Here’s a little more detail on each of their projects.
Disabled Wheelchair Mobility Unit
My major design project is a personalised wheelchair mobility unit for a four-year-old Tanzanian child with cerebral palsy.
The purpose of my design is solely to improve the quality of life for the little boy and ease stress on his family.
I have designed my project with the goal to promote a recycled and environmentally friendly innovation.
Jordyn’s work was featured on WIN News earlier this year.
Gymnastics Training Apparatus
I have designed a gymnastics pommel horse that has been modified to have four handles arranged in a square to increase the possible moves while doing the gymnastics skill “circles”. This is meant to spark creativity and improve handle-related skills.
The pommel horse has padding around any dangers and solid handles for comfort while doing the skills. It is low to the ground to encourage height while circling and has a foam pommel below to simulate the actual apparatus.
Bicycle Wheel Truing Travel Device
I have designed and built a portable wheel truing stand enabling more efficient repair of bicycle wheels.
A portable stand open opportunity for wheels to be repaired when away from home and/or racing.
This device incorporates highly accurate dial indicators as well as a simple intuitive design that is easy to use, lightweight and highly compact.
We are delighted to see how our students’ individual interests and passions have led them to develop such individual projects, and we wait eagerly to see if their nominations will be successful!
