Our Year 11 Design and Technology and Textiles & Design students recently headed to Sydney to seek design inspiration and become more informed about the major works they will tackle in Year 12.
All students viewed the SHAPE exhibition at the Powerhouse Museum, showcasing a selection of 2019 HSC Major Projects in both Design and Technology and Textiles and Design. We were all taken by the innovative solutions created in response to specific needs. The students viewed, photographed and considered a wide variety of items, materials, and construction techniques. Examples of project folios provided further ideas and inspiration.
Our Textiles and Design students headed to The Muse at Sydney TAFE with Mrs Whitelock to view a larger selection of HSC Major Textile Projects from 2019 at the TEXSTYLE exhibition. Following this, an experienced HSC marker led the students through the specific requirements of the project folio. Further information on design and textiles courses available at the TAFE was helpful to those students wishing to pursue further studies in these areas.
At the SPACE store in Alexandria, Design and Technology students gained insight into a wide range of design solutions applied to lighting and furnishing products. They are currently completing the finishing touches to design a children’s educational toy, and they are about to start designing their own unique light. The students were able to see how designers from across the globe have created lighting solutions. We look forward to seeing the completion of their toys and lights in the next few weeks.
Our Textiles and Design students also experienced the vibrant “Step Into Paradise” exhibition at the Powerhouse Museum, showcasing the creative talents of textile designers Jenny Kee and Linda Jackson, spanning 40 years. The influences, inspirations and stories behind their work were fascinating. A smaller display celebrating 50 years of the brand Cue further demonstrated the entire design process from initial ideas through to the final textile product.
Finding new and creative problems to solve is challenging and finding the solutions to them even more so. However, we serve a God with infinite creativity who can inspire and lead us in our solutions.
