Year 1 teacher Caleb Jones loves to ride. This weekend, as one of our Bike for Bibles team, he’ll be doing plenty of it. We chatted to him to find out why.
It’s your first year at ICS! Don’t you have enough on your plate without this ride too? Why did you decide to ride?
It is my first year at ICS and everything feels new, so why not add something else that is new? Riding has always been a big part of my life. So when I heard about Bike for Bibles and an opportunity to combine bike riding with a great cause like The Bible Society I didn’t need any convincing.
Do you have lots of cycling experience? What are the things you’re looking forward to or concerned about?
Before I was teaching in a full-time capacity I spent the majority of my time riding and racing my bike.
Bike racing took me all over the world from Belgium to Borneo and everywhere in between. I am very thankful for that time in my life, where I got to do something I love and travel the world to see other parts of God’s beautiful creation. That was four years ago now, so I am not nearly as fit as I used to be! I am a little worried about the distance, but trust that God will give me the strength to push through.
I am really looking forward to getting to know other members of the ICS school community. As I teach in the Infants at ICS, I don’t have very much contact with students and families in the senior school. I look forward to getting to know more families and getting alongside each other.
How can the ICS community support you in the ride?
Pray and give! We will need lots of prayer to not only get through the three days of riding safely but also prayer to open the hearts of the people that we might meet along the way. We are raising money for a great cause in The Bible Society and the funds will go towards literacy education and furthering God’s kingdom through Bible translation.
It’s not too late to get involved in our fundraising efforts for the Bible Society! We’re raising much-needed funds to support women’s literacy in East Africa – and you can help in a meaningful way. Click here to reach our team page and make your donation.
