K-2 at Illawarra Christian School starts your child on a lifetime journey of exploring and discovering the joy of learning.
Exploration and discovery are at the heart of an inquiry-based learning environment.
Inquiry-based learning empowers each student to be an active participant in their learning. This journey is led by the student’s questions, observations, experiences, ideas and theories. The students develop their own lines of investigation with the teacher supporting and facilitating the process.
Setting the stage for a lifetime of learning
When students’ learning is relevant and authentic it promotes an intrinsic desire to learn. This sets the foundation for a love of learning in the early years of schooling.
As students strive to make sense of the world around them they are developing skills and dispositions for lifelong learning. Through exploration and discovery, they are encouraged to problem solve, think critically, collaborate, persist, make connections, create, innovate and reflect. In doing so, students are not simply remembering facts and knowledge, but are developing a deep understanding of the world around them.
It is our goal at ICS that our students develop the confidence and skills to flourish in a dynamic world.
