Illawarra Christian School provides a secure, stimulating and friendly learning environment for our infants and primary children.
The K–6 curriculum covers the mandatory requirements of the NESA syllabuses. It includes study in English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, Personal Development, Health and Physical Education, and the Creative Arts. We place a focus on building strong foundations in literacy and numeracy, while seeking to cater for the different needs of individual students.
A careful and collegial scope and sequence is designed to ensure that all lessons are planned and implemented in a logical and thoughtful way. A biblical worldview is applied to each area of study in a way that is natural and helpful to the children’s holistic understanding of the curriculum through a Christian perspective. All infants and primary students start the day with devotions and participate in weekly Biblical Studies lessons.
K–6 students participate in STEM-related activities through integrated units of study. They also enjoy opportunities to develop skills in coding. Students enjoy learning about Japanese geography, culture and language, they benefit from lessons with a specialist Music teacher, and they have weekly learning sessions in the library. Over their seven years of study, K–6 students are exposed to a well-rounded variety of units that educate them about the world around them and encourage them to be life-long learners.
