Our innovative STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) program at Illawarra Christian School encompasses an inter-disciplinary approach to learning from K-12.
It provides our students with a problem-based approach to learning and encourages the development of communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creative skills. We are preparing our students for future employment opportunities even before we can know what they will look like.
Our Year 8 students design and create projects in their TAS classes in conjunction with their learning in Science and Mathematics. Our teachers work closely across faculties to ensure that all learning is relevant, authentic and cohesive.
Additional extracurricular activities include participation in the FLL Robotics club and the Computation and Algorithmic Thinking competitions. Year 7 students also build their understanding of STEM-related issues at an overnight STEM camp. Future opportunities for our students will include additional coding experiences in secondary school, a STEM-based elective in Stage 5 and Engineering Studies in Stage 6.
