Illawarra Christian School provides a variety of opportunities for students to grow in their understanding and practice of Christian leadership.
Students are encouraged to follow Jesus’ model of servant leadership as they put their needs aside in order to meet the needs of others. Student leaders are invited to attend a range of school and community leadership events designed to challenge and inspire our leaders of the future.
Secondary School Captains and Vice-captains are elected by students and staff to lead the student body during their final year at school. In addition to leading by demonstrating exemplary attitudes and behaviour, secondary captains and vice-captains represent the school at official functions, lead school assemblies, organise fundraising for an organisation of their choice, speak at special school gatherings and contribute to school publications.
Secondary House Captains are appointed by the school executive. Their duties include assisting with House meetings and the organisation of House activities at swimming and athletics carnivals, organising a fundraiser for their House charity and reporting on House events in school publications.
Year 11 Student Leaders are reliable and trustworthy students who are approved by the school executive. They support and encourage Year 7 students during their transition into secondary school. They attend the Year 6 orientation days, lead peer support groups, take devotions with Year 7, and provide friendship, support and encouragement in the school playground.
Primary Student Leaders are drawn from our Year 6 cohort. They assist with running K–6 assemblies, participate in school tours and contribute to whole-school assemblies. Primary House Captains work with teachers and secondary House captains in supporting major school sporting and fundraising events. The Primary Tech Team is responsible for looking after technology at primary assemblies and Primary Library Monitors provide support in the library during breaks and lunchtimes.
