PLAYING AND LEARNING
In Prep, our students are introduced to the joy of learning through play, exploration and discovery. A balance between structured group times and free play provides children with fun-filled learning opportunities in these early years.
Illawarra Christian School’s Prep program for children aged 3-5 adheres to the Australian government’s Early Years Learning Framework, and our accreditation rating exceeds the national quality standard. Fully qualified Prep teachers work alongside families, infants staff, learning support staff, school counsellors and external support staff with a holistic approach that supports every child. We share the children’s delight as they continually discover more about God’s world and his love for them.
Communication is fundamental to the success of our program as we share the Prep experience with families. We enjoy talking and exchanging stories with families when they visit, and we also communicate through the online portfolio system that keeps our parents in touch with their child’s progress.
Belonging to a larger school community brings unique opportunities. Our Prep students are always excited to join with infants classes on special occasions. Their learning times with a specialist music teacher generate plenty of enthusiasm, and their daily visits to the library are highlights. Our four-year-olds love learning French on iPads through the Early Learning Languages Australia program. Wearing a simple uniform helps the children to feel a sense of belonging to their program and also to the larger school community.
Prep provides a smooth transition to school, with Kindergarten teachers having genuine insights into each child’s strengths, needs and interests. It is a joy for us to see our Prep children motivated by curiosity and wonder as they happily take the next step of their learning journey into Kindergarten.
