This year at Prep we have a vegetable garden and we are growing things we can cook!
Recently we were able to harvest something from our garden for the first time—silver beet! Using scissors, the children helped pick the silver beet.
We washed it in the kitchen and used it in our recipe for cheese and spinach triangles. The children took turns in small groups to mix the ingredients including ricotta, mozzarella cheese, salt, pepper, lemon rind, and our special silver beet. Each of them were given some puff pastry which they painted with egg.
Mrs Balson added some filling. The children folded it into a triangle and pressed the edge with a fork. We painted them with egg again and cooked them in the oven! Once they were cooked we ate them and most of us loved them. Everything tastes better when you have grown and made it yourself!
