Illawarra Christian School’s Prep program for children aged 3-5 adheres to the Australian government’s Early Years Learning Framework.
We are rated as exceeding the National Quality Standard.
Fully qualified Prep teachers work alongside families, infants staff, learning support staff, school counsellors and external support staff with a holistic approach that supports every child.
We share the children’s delight as they continually discover more about God’s world, and his love for them, through play-based learning. A balance between structured routine and free play provides children with fun-filled learning opportunities in these early years.
Communication is fundamental to the success of our program as we share the Prep experience with families. We enjoy talking and exchanging stories with families, and we also communicate through an online portfolio system, OWNA, that keeps our parents in touch with their child’s development.
Belonging to a larger school community brings unique opportunities. Our Prep students are always excited to join with infants classes on special occasions. Visits to the library and music lessons with primary school staff are highlights in our week. Wearing a simple uniform helps the children to feel a sense of belonging to Prep and also to the larger school community.
Prep provides a smooth transition to school, with Kindergarten teachers having genuine insights into each child’s strengths, needs and interests. It is a joy for us to see our Prep children motivated by curiosity and wonder as they happily take the next step of their learning journey into Kindergarten.
